According to Coraid, he could get storage pricing below $1 per GB. That's real impressive.
Sun's X4500 - Thumper able to get as low as $2.00 per GB, that's of course come with much better performance :
2 GBps throughput from disks to memory, and approximately
1 GBps from disks to the network.

Manual for Solaris Administration Guide: Containers.......
This is the title of the manual i have followed up in docs.sun.com for a while:
System Administration Guide: Solaris Containers-Resource Management and Solaris Zones
I have several versions of this manual, earliest i have back date to sometimes Apr 2005 if i still remember correctly........the part no is 817-1592
I have version of 817-1592-12 (December 2005), 817-1592-13 (May 2006).
The latest i download is of a different part number, yet the manual title is still the same.
The new part no is 819-2450-6 (July 2006) and there is a word "beta" on the cover page....this really baffles me.

Oh Solaris 10, where are my disks?
Solaris Zones on VMware on 2 core Wintel Machine
This is a small testing to see whether Solaris 10 zones resource management feature really works. Objectives are to test both Resource Pool and FSS.
First i installed Solaris 10 on VMware on a Pentium Duo Core machine with 1GB RAM.
The global zone is sol10vm8. The two non-global zones created are vm8z1 and vm8z2 respectively. When creating VM using VMware, i choosed to use 2 CPUs for this Sol 10 virtual machine.

Created a pool called vm8-pool which used maximum 1 CPU.
This step is important as we want to limit the utilization of CPU to 1 by using resource pool.

You can see the utilization of vm8z1 and vm8z2 used 29% and 20% of the cpu resources respectively. Look at the Windows Task Manager......the 1st CPU is highly loaded while the 2nd one is relatively idle.
Yes!! We achieved our objective!
By using resource pool, we are able to limit the processor set we use.
By using FSS, we have successfully limit the utilization of zones.
What about setting the shares to 60 and 30? (This time i set vm8z2 to 60 and vm8z1 to 30) Here's the result:

Total: 133 processes, 454 lwps, load averages: 12.01, 11.61, 13.18
You can see that the prstat did not show 60% and 30%, it shows 32% and 17% which is about the half of it. Well, this is simple, what prstat -Z shows is the overall utilization which includes all the CPU resources in the system, which is 2 CPU in this case.
The OVERALL cpu allocation for vm8z1 is : [30/90] * 100 * 1/2 = 17%
and vm8z2: [60/90] * 100 * 1/2 = 33%
This indeed shows that prstat output is correct. I will look into granularity of cpu allocation at project level when have time.

Ony the best as judges....
Only the best judges move up
.....of course CJ is absolutely correct to select the best as judges.
The question is "what criterias"??
This is his criterias:
-- "their conduct, including in society, judicial temperament ... not to lose your temper every time you sit on the bench, fast in delivering written decision".
-- to be proactive, responsible, productive and prepared to sacrifice his/her own personal time for the purpose of justice and disposal of cases.
I am absolutely agree with CJ, but i have one question in mind.
How about the criterias like ability, experience and Intelligence to make the best judgement?? We are talking about MAKING JUDGEMENTS now, but processiong documents!!!

Here's my 2 cents about BPO -- malaysia
India and China?? Of course India is still hot on the list.......but here's some true scenario.
In a article of Financial Times : Are India and China up to the job? By Jo Johnson and Richard McGregor
...it is observed that.......
India produces 3 millions graduates every year, but out of those number, only 25% of the engineering graduates and 15% of the non-engineering graduates are suitable to be directly employed to BPO operation.
(That’s a big number anyway compared to Malaysia)
China?? Until now, the engineering workforce size suitable for MNC operation is no more than 200,000 at anyone time. That's a miserable figure considering the total number of workforce it can provides.
So what do we do in Malaysia?? The key point here is SKILLED labour. Regardless of the number of graduates you produce, the country who can provides skillful workforce at a reasonable cost will win.
(of course many will disagree on what that reasonable cost will be)
It doesn't has to be the cheapest, it has to be reasonable. As long as the country can keep the living cost low and provides adequate living quality, the companies will be able to control the demand on wages increase.
If Malaysia able to provide that -- I am sure she can excel and stand out from among the rest.

NFS and NIS
Summary of Managing NFS and
16.4.3 Locating bottlenecks
- Get a rough idea of whether the NFS servers or network is the biggest contributor to performance problems before walking thru all diagnostic steps.
- On a typical nfs client, type: nfsstat –rc
- If the client-side RPC counts for timeout and badxid are close in value, the network is healthy
- If nfsstat shows that timeout is large while badxid is 0 or negligible, then the packets are never making it to the server. This problem is network related – NIC cards of server and client, router, etc.

Rather than back to basic, they believe KL flood foes will be solved once and for all. I do not think it is going to improve the situation. Go and take a look at the number of clogged drains first.
With 500,000 new vehicles go down the street every year (and this figure just keep increasing), you can think just to what extent this project is going to ease the KL traffic congestion.
Damages caused by the project?? Here.

1. SMART Project -- major underground tunnel digging

The main purpose is to resolve the flash flood nightmare
2. New KL-Putrajaya Highway construction work
3. Jalan Loke Yew - major expansion along some 10 km road
4. Sungai Kerayong (Kerayong River) river bed deepening work
You can really imagine what happened to the landscape here in 2 year times. This area is already highly congested with houses, apartment and cars, you can imagine the quality of life we have now!!
I will put up photos of all these projects.......

Those poor IT guys in Malaysia
Well, we are not really that poor. We only poor in terms of knowledge, when compared to IT force work in countries like US and EU.
About three years ago, I purchased an Oreilly's "SSH: The Secure Shell The Definitive Guide" by Daniel J. Barrett, Ph. D., Richard E. Silverman. It costs me 132 Ringgit. Well this is about 3 times more expensive the US version. We all know that too well, the ringgit pegging thing. IT guys need to pay 1/3 of the price to gain the same knowledge, whereas people like us who is already earning lower than our counterpart in US, got to pay 3 times higher. Make sense?
So you think what quality of life do i have?
It is sad thing we IT people (in fact all knowledge workers) who need constant upgrade got to pay the price for policies like this. People (friends from India) told me books are priced reasonably there. Books from China?? I know well, they are not expensive either. What difficulty is there for the authority to provide some concessions to publishers? Government has been subsidied large amout of petrol and diesel years, what so difficulty about subsiding people technical books that we knowledge workers much needed? Fair??
Cyberjaya Street Mall
This place needs to have 2 things in place:
1. ATM
2. Cyber cafe
Unbelievable huh?? No ATM there? Yes, this is what i experienced today. The nearest ATM is located at the Maybank office, which is a few hundreds meter away from Street Mall, it is about 40 minutes to and fro, yes still walking distance huh!
Oh yes, i need to logon to some sites which is not convenient to do in office (do not ask me what sites), arrr, where is the cyber cafe?? Do not ask me. It is another disappointment!
Someone told me there is more street post in Cyberjaya than the whole of Dengkil. Not surprising, considering it is an intelligent city. The surprising thing is the population density in Cyberjaya is almost 0, compared to Dengkil.

Some people may resolve to read the sutra texts Hoping to help those confused to reach the other shore. Although the vows they make are quite remarkable, Try as they may, they cannot remember what they read.
Because of their karmic obstructions and delusions, Those people cannot memorize the Mahayana sutras. But they can offer scents and flowers to Earth Store. They can give him clothing, food, and other things they like.
They can place pure water on an altar to the Bodhisattva, And leave it there a day and night before they drink it. With diligent intent they should abstain from pungent plants, Alcohol, meat, improper sex and false speech.
For three weeks they should not kill or harm any creature, While being mindful of the name of that Great Being. Then suddenly in a dream their vision may become boundless. Awakening, they may discover that they now have keen hearing.
From then on, once they hear the teachings of the sutras, They will never forget them throughout thousands of lives. How inconceivable this Bodhisattva is In helping people like that gain such wisdom!
